“Auction Hunters” Premieres Tonight on SPIKE

It’s not often that the world of self storage and the world of reality television intersect (Paris Hilton notwithstanding) so you can imagine when it does we get kind of excited.  Tonight, Auction Hunters debuts on the cable channel Spike.  In the vein of shows like Pawn Stars and American Pickers, Auction Hunters will follow Ton Jones, a car and weapons expert and Allen Haff, who has a background in dealing antiques, as they travel around the country visiting self-storage auctions searching for treasure, bidding on units and then sifting through all the junk to get to the really great finds.  I haven’t been able to see any full episodes yet, but watching the clips it seems like it will be pretty interesting.  Though they are surely having to edit out a lot of boring parts, the clips on Spike’s site show them finding 18th century firearms, antique slot machines and 80 year old golf clubs. With enough viewers, the show could end up being a boon for the storage auction industry (no doubt to the dismay of those who already participate as a hobby or even as a job).

What do you think?  Will you watch?

Auction Hunters premieres tonight with back-to-back episodes at 10PM/9C on SPIKE.
